Their living arrangement \u2013 in terms of where they live and with whom \u2013 is a key indicator of their quality of life, life satisfaction, and received social support, and has important implications for policymakers developing residential and long-term care strategies. Previous studies have consistently shown a strong two-way relationship between health status and living arrangements among older adults. Our study explicitly examines how activities of daily living (ADL) disability, a potentially modifiable condition, influences the expected duration of different living arrangements. Using data from the Health and Retirement Study and applying multistate life table analysis, we found a significant correlation between ADL disability and the expected time spent in various living situations.
